“I have really enjoyed my time at PCMS. At the assessment day, I had the opportunity to meet other placement students and I was really impressed by the overall company ethos and what the placement scheme had to offer, which made me very keen to join.

The range of frameworks, technologies and tools I have been working with have greatly increased my proficiency at programming. Working alongside my mentors has also been a great experience as I can see the different techniques they employ. I am currently working on adding functionality to the hospitality till so that when voiding an item we can capture a reason. I am looking forward to working part time for PCMS during my final year at university before returning as a graduate in 2017.”

Software Development Placement Student

Whilst on placement at PCMS, I have been working on a high profile project for a customer in the hospitality sector, which has allowed me to see and participate in the whole Software Development Life Cycle.

I worked on the ‘Recipe Project’ which allows the customer to maintain all their recipes and ingredients in order to export their recipes and ingredients to Excel or PDF. I have also worked on the development of the panel maintenance functionality which manages and maintains all of the panels showing on the PoS enabling flexibility on what menus or set of products they want to appear. I believe the experience gained will definitely help me when I go back to university and return to PCMS
in 2017.”

Undergraduate placement FAQs

What is the recruitment process?

Once your CV has been received and reviewed by the HR Team, the stages to our recruitment process are as follows: If you are an ideal candidate for PCMS, you will be invited to attend a telephone interview with a member of the Development / Business Analysis team lasting approximately 30 minutes. If successful at this stage, you will be invited to attend an assessment centre (usually these take place in early Spring) with a number of other applicants. This process will involve previous graduates and managers from across the company and will allow you to learn more about PCMS and the programme we have on offer. The day will also include a variety of exercises such as:

  • A competency based interview
  • Group work
  • Individual activity
  • Presentation

Full feedback will be given at each stage of the interview process for development purposes.

What happens at the end of the placement?
After completing the placement, students will return to University to complete their final year of study. We anticipate that placement students would return to us on completion of their degree for a permanent position within the Development / Business Analysis Team at PCMS. Where possible we may also be able to offer work during the holiday periods to maintain exposure to the world of PCMS.
Are you able to offer non-technical placements?

How long will it take to process my application?
We review applications on an ongoing basis. We will endeavour to feedback as soon as possible. Please bear with us, as with all graduate and undergraduate programmes we receive a high number of applications and have to ensure that we consider each application thoroughly.
